The TARANGINI VEENA the veena of the 21st century was launched in Bangalore by Dr.Suma Sudhindra. The well-known Vainika. Dr. Suma is a Kannada Rajyotsava award winner of 2001.
The new Tarangini Veena is made of Nandi wood and does not have the large resonator / the kodam. The use of magnetic pickups negates the necessity of the acoustic resonator.
The frets are fixed on the wooden board itself without the wax base, and this ensures the weather resistance of the Veena and the frequent need to do the melam is not felt.
The sound of the Veena is as melodious as that of the Saraswathi Veena and has excellent sustenance and continuity of nada.
The pegs are dispensed with and guitar keys are used to ensure shruti stability. The Tarangini Veena is very compact and light, making it small enough to be comfortably portable.
