Tarangini Arts Foundation, Bangalore was started in 1974 by Dr. Suma Sudhindra, primarily as a centre for teaching music through the instrument Veena. Over a period of 49 years, it has grown into a premier teaching institution for the promotion of training and research in the field of karnatik classical music and has become a reputed foundation for performances. Among the aims and objectives of the foundation, the salient features are:

  • Teach train and students in Veena, vocal and other instruments and groom them to become professional concert players.
  • Promote research and development in the theory and practice of music and provide a forum for discussion and exchange of ideas about the practice of art, where great masters from all over the country can interact with each other and with students
  • Promoting deserving artists by providing performing opportunities.
  • Closely interact with cultural activities of sister organizations functioning in India and abroad. to propagate and promote artistic collaborations


TAF has Conducted several workshops by eminent artists and teachers which include Dr.Chittibabu, Prof.R.Vedavalli, Madhurai T.N.Sheshagopalan, Prof.R.Vishweshwaran, Shri Lalgudi G Jayaraman and many others, the workshops covered padam, Javalis, Swaraprastara, Raagalaapana & nerval techniques.

TAF also organized biennial festivals featuring eminent musicians like Dr.Chittibabu, Ravikiran, the violin duo Ganesh & Kumaresh, Hyderabad Brothers, K.S.Gopalakrishnan, Prof.R Vishweshwaran, T.V Shankaranarayan, Madhurai T.N Sheshagopalan, Dr. Kadri Gopalanath and dancers Dr. Padam Subramaniam & Alarmelvalli to name a few.

A music festival was regularly organized by TAF in Chennai for 9 years during the December music season and was known as Celebration. In the last 3 years, a music festival called Tarangini Arts Festival is been conducted in Bengaluru. The institute to date has Trained many students to pass with Distinction at senior and proficiency level exams conducted by Karnataka State Examination Board.

There have been successful performances by groups from TAF consisting of Five, Seven, Ten, Twenty-five, Fifty, Seventy-five and hundred veena players. On March 2023 TAF conducted ‘ Date with Veena’ a veena festival in Bangalore.
